Who We Are
Benjamin Blair
Professor Blair joined the Turner College of Business after a successful career in teaching and research at Mississippi State University. He has been successful in teaching and conducting academic as well as contract research. His main research interests are regional in nature. A University of Florida graduate, he was also assistant professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and associate professor at Mississippi State University. He has numerous publications in a variety of areas in microeconomics such as employee job satisfaction, design of contracting mechanisms to solve the principal agent problem, optimal pricing mechanisms for electricity generation, welfare effects of deregulation, and retail gasoline pricing.
 
The chair was endowed to honor Sarah Turner Butler's commitment to excellence in all things and to enhance the mission of the D. Abbott Turner College of Business that bears her father's name. As holder of the Sarah T. Butler chair, Professor Blair serves as director of the newly established Butler Center for Business and Economic Research.

Professor Spears joined the Turner College of Business after a successful career in finance at financial institutions in cities such as Auburn, Birmingham, and Atlanta. 
He has been successful in teaching and conducting academic as well as contract research.  An Auburn University graduate, he also teaches Economics, Management Information Systems, and Political Science classes at nearby colleges such as Southern Union Community College, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Columbus Technical College, and of course Columbus State University. He has pending publications in crime and inequality data as well as optimal spending on educational attainment in the states of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.
